Snowfall continues in Chenab Valley; NH1B, other road links restored

BHADARWAH: Night temperature in whole Chenab Valley went down as snowfall continued on second day. Batote-Doda-Kishtwar National Highway(NH1B) and other link roads of District Doda and Kishtwar were restored while the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway (NH1A) which is considered as lifeline remained closed for second consecutive day on Tuesday.
According to reports, Chenab Valley remained cut-off from rest of the country as continuous spells of snowfall at Patnitop on National Highway hampered restoration work and snow clearance process on Tuesday. However power and potable water supply was partially restored.
Despite continuous spells of snowfall, local administration started snow clearance process in and around Bhadarwah town on war footing to restore essential services while power supply has been restored partially.
When connected Dy.SP Traffic NH1B Aftab Ahmed said that,we have restored Batote-Kishtwar National Highway and are allowing light vehicles to ply till Batote, however National Highway 1A connecting Chenab Valley and Kashmir with rest of the country remained closed due to heavy snowfall at Patni-Top.
He added that Srinagar-Jammu national highway is still closed and no fresh traffic has been allowed and our first priority is to clear stuck up vehicles stranded in snow on Batote-Patni-Top area.
However in Bhadarwah, Gandoh and Thathri Sub Divisions of District Doda power supply was partially restored after 30 hours on Tuesday morning.
SDM Bhadarwah Mohd Anwar Banday said that despite continuous snowfall, we carried on with restoration work and managed to clear essential roads including, Doda-Bhadarwah, Bhadarwah – Sartingal, Jai Road , Rainda Road and Chobia Link Road. We also restored potable water supply and electricity in Bhadarwah today.
Banday added that we have deployed maximum men and small machines to clear by-lanes and interior of the town.
According to reports, heavy snowfall again started at Bhadarwah, Gandoh and Bhalla at 1:00 PM.
