SMVDU Kakrayal wins volleyball trophy

KATRA: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) Kakrayal clinched the title trophy in the open volleyball tournament which was organised by the VI Battalion of the CRPF, under Civil Action Programme, at Sports Stadium, here on Thursday. In the title clash, SMVDU defeated Paloura Volleyball Club 3-1. In all, 16 teams, including those local clubs at Panchayat level, took part in this three-day competition, organised to encourage sportsmanship among the youth and also to channelise the energy of youth towards constructive activities.
Minister of State for Finance, Ajay Nanda was Chief Guest, who along with Guests of Honour, Samir Mahaseth (visiting MLA from Bihar); SSP Reasi, Tariq Bhatt and SDM Katra gave away the winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes. While the winner team was presented with a cash prize of Rs 10,000, the runners-up team got Rs 6,500 from the Chief Guest. To promote sports, the local clubs were also presented with sports kits and other equipment including nets. The Chief Guest had all praise for the CRPF for playing an important role both in extending security cover and social activities.
Earlier, Commandant of the Host VI Battalion, Sushil Kumar Mishra presented a detailed report of the event and the purpose of hosting the sports activities, especially in the rural belts of the State. He said that the players of participating teams will not only become good and reputed citizen of India but will also play vital role in promoting nationalism, secularism, religious tolerance and will remain committed to development of nation in all fields.
The commandant thanked the minister and other distinguished gathering for gracing the occasion. He also assured that such type of more competitions and public welfare activities will be conducted by CRPF in future.
