SMVDU faculty awarded with APSI International Plant Scientist Award 2016

KATRA: The Academy of Plant Sciences India (APSI) presented Dr. Sharada M. Potukuchi, Associate Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Shri Mata Vaishni Devi University (SMVDU) with the APSI International Plant Scientist Award 2016 in appreciation of her outstanding contribution and research in the field of Plant Tissue Culture and Genetic Engineering.
The award was presented at the inaugural ceremony of the Academy of Plant Sciences India Scientists Meet and National Conference on ‘Emerging Trends in Biotechnology for Agriculture, Medicine and Environment’ organized at Mahila PG Mahavidyalaya, Jodhpur, Rajasthan.
Considering the very sincere efforts of Dr. Potukuchi for her outstanding and extraordinary achievements in various fields of Plant Sciences, the Academy honored her with a medal, which is a token of Academy’s recognition of the rare distinction, she has earned in this specialized field of research.
She also presented some of the work done by her in various projects over a period of 20 years experience by way of the presentation titled ‘Modulation of Secondary Metabolite Production Through Cell Manipulative Approaches in Selected Medicinal Plants’ for which she was also awarded the Best Paper Presenter Award.
The Conference was also attended by M. Sc. & Ph. D. students of Biotechnology of SMVDU working under the supervision of Dr. Potukuchi and Dr. Raju Shankarayan who presented research papers. Anuja Koul, Ph.D student presented a paper titled ‘Studies on Optimization of Conditions for Maximizing Biomass and Bacoside Production in Suspension Cultures of Bacopamonnieri(L.) Wettst’, Savita Sharma, Ph.D student titled ‘Influence of Nutrient Supplements on invitro Shoot Regeneration of Medicinally Important Plant Boerhaaviadiffusa L’ and Jyotsna Sharma, Ph.D student titled ‘High Frequency invitro Regeneration System for Conservation of Kickxiaramosissima (Wall) Janch: A Medicinally Important Herb’.
