Smuggling bid foiled; 170 Kgs poppy straw seized

JAMMU: Continuing with its drive against smugglers, a joint team of the officials of Toll Post Lakhanpur and Police Department Lakhanpur, detected 160 Kgs of poppy being carried outside the State.
According to reports, a vehicle bearing registration No PB10FF-8499 was on its way from Jammu to Punjab. During the course of physical checking, it was found to be carrying 160 kgs of poppy beneath apple boxes. The vehicle along with contraband item and the persons accompanying the vehicle were arrested by the police authorities, Lakhanpur.
The arrested persons have been identified as Randhir Singh, son of Swarn Singh, resident of Ward No 4, District Ludhiana Punjab and Gurjreet Singh, son of Boria Singh, resident of Kulanrian, District Mansa Punjab. The whole operation was conducted by the team of Excise Department comprising Rohit Sharma Excise and Taxation Officer, Anil Kumar, Rakesh Chopra Inspectors, Ajay Kumar Sub-Inspector, Barkit Ali Excise Guard and the Police Department comprising Rachpal Singh ASI, Kuldeep Kumar SGTC and Constable Jagesh Kumar.
The Deputy Excise Commissioner appreciated the efforts of the staff at Toll Post Lakhanpur and warned the smugglers to desist from such activities.
