SLSA CONVENES NATIONAL LOK ADALAT ACROSS J&K;Rs 12.84 cr awarded as compensation, Rs 10.51 cr recovered in bank cases

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir State Legal Services Authority (SLSA) on Saturday organised National Lok Adalat at High Court, District and Tehsil level, across the State, under the patronage of Chief Justice of J and K High Court Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar who is also Patron-in-Chief SLSA.
In a statement, Member Secretary J&K SLSA, R.N Watal said 24,854 cases were disposed-off in the National Lok Adalat which included 278 MACT cases wherein Rs 12.84 crores was awarded as compensation and 671 Bank Recovery Cases wherein Rs 10.51 crore was recovered.
He said at High Court Wing Jammu, two benches were constituted to deal with the cases in the Lok Adalat headed by Justice Bansi Lal Bhat (Retd) and other headed by Justice O P Sharma (Retd).
Chief Justice of the J and K High Court, N Paul Vasanthakumar accompanied by Justice Alok Aradhe, inspected the National Lok Adalat at Jammu Wing of the High Court and District Court Complex Jammu, and gave the compensation cheques to the victims of motor accidents.
At High Court wing Srinagar, the National Lok Adalat was inaugurated by Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, Executive Chairman J&K SLSA in presence of Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey, Chairman High Court Legal Services Committee.
In the Srinagar wing of the High Court only one bench was constituted headed by Justice Hasnain Masoodi (Retd).
The Executive Chairman also gave the compensation cheques to the victims of motor accident.
In Anantnag the National Lok Adalat was organized by Tehsil Legal Services Authority wherein 180 cases were taken up for hearing out of which 96 cases were amicably settled and a fine of Rs 19200 was recovered.
In Budgam, five benches were constituted throughout the district for holding of the National Lok Adalat wherein 277 cases were taken up for hearing and 70 cases were disposed.
