SKUAST-TAJ delegation meets Dy CM, submits memo

JAMMU: A delegation of SKUAST-Teaching Association Jammu (SKUAST-TAJ) led by its President Dr. Vikas Sharma met Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh and submitted a memorandum regarding upgradation of SKUAST-Jammu to Central Agricultural University of Jammu.

President SKUAST-TAJ, Dr. Vikas Sharma apprised the Dy. CM that in the northern India there is not even a single Central Agricultural University so far and Jammu region is the most suitable place for the establishment of the same.

“Central Agricultural University Status for SKUAST-Jammu will help in increasing the staff / research stations in the far flung / remote areas and availability of increased financial assistance directly from the Central Government will further help to take the latest technology to the door steps of farmers in far flung areas and further this will be a good confidence measure for the people of Jammu, who have struggled a lot for this Agricultural University,” he added.

Sanction from Planning Department for opening of New Faculties/Divisions in the University which include College of Dairy Technology, College of Agricultural Engineering and Department of Seed Technology, quarterly/timely release of funds from the State Government for payment of salaries and flood relief package for SKUAST -Jammu were the other demands put forth by the association before the Dy. CM.

After giving a patient hearing to SKUAST-J teachers, Dr. Nirmal Singh said that for the overall development of Jammu Division and to address time to time demands of farming community, steps will be taken very soon to oblige Jammuites by addressing their genuine demand for upgradation of State Agriculture University.

The deputation comprised of Dr. Vivek M. Arya General Secretary, Dr. P.K Rai Joint Secretary, Dr. Devinder Sharma Publicity Secretary, Dr. S.P Singh and Dr Poonam Parihaar.
