SKUAST-J trains farmers on high density planting of apples, almonds

BHADARWAH: Scientists of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu organized one day training programme on ‘High Density Planting for Higher Productivity in Apple and Almond’ at Regional Horticultural Research Sub Station, Bhaderwah (Doda) under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) sponsored Network Project on Outreach of Technologies for Temperate Fruit Crops, wherein more than 20 farmers participated.
The training programme was organised under the esteemed guidance of Prof. Pradeep K. Sharma, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-J, Dr. J.P Sharma, Director Research of SKUAST-J and Dr. Mahital Jamwal, Principal Investigator/ Senior Scientist and Head of RHRSS, Bhaderwah.
During the training to the farmers, Dr. Neeraj Kotwal elaborated several protective measures against insect and pest attacks under high density plantations of apple and almond to achieve higher productivity. He distributed a pamphlet among the participants for pest and disease management in apples.
Dr. Sanjeev Kumar elaborated the participants about the methods of soil sampling and importance of soil testing before establishing or planning an orchard.
He advised the farmers for timely application of manures and fertilisers to obtain optimum production under high density orchards of apples and almonds.
Bhaskar Singh, Senior Research Fellow under the Network Project apprised the farmers about the different cultural practices required under high density planting systems for optimum growth and production of trees.
