SKUAST-J organises training programme on management of fruit fly

JAMMU: PIMC Meeting and one day training programme was organized on “Management of Fruit Fly Problem In Mango” at Simbalbali, Distt – Samba, Tehsil – Samba by Division of Plant Physiology, Faculty of Basic sciences and NABARD Jammu under the aegis of SKUAST – Jammu. Twenty (Approx.) farmers from village Simbalbali and nearby areas participated in this training. Dr. Bhav Kumar Sinha, PI of the project started the meeting with welcome address. Dr. Reena, Sr. Scientist (Entomology) delivered a talk on “Management of fruit fly in mango by using fruit fly traps.
Sanjeev Verma, Chief Agriculture Officer, Samba discussed about the benefits of shade net for fruit cultivation. Dr. Shahid Ahmad, ADR, SUAST- Jammu said that success of this project in the field is the hard work of Scientist and mango orchardists. Farmers should add more farmers in this mission.
Dr. Vinod Gupta, Incharge, KVK- Samba, address to the farmers and said that you all are requested to join the KVK for any problem related to agriculture.
Shailesh Sharma, DDM- Samba, NABARD – Jammu and Kashmir delivered a lecture on various programmes launched by NABARD in favour of farmers of Jammu and Kashmir. The project PI, Dr. B. K. Sinha delivered a talk on “How to manage alternate bearing in mango” and also gave training on precautions to be taken at the time of harvesting of mango fruits. All the resource persons distributed fruit fly traps and lure to the registered farmers for reducing the yield loss of the farmers. Dr. Gurdev Chand, Head, Division of Plant Physiology, discussed about the hydroponic cultivation of vegetable crops and soilless fodder production. Devender Singh, HDO, Samba, gave the tips to the farmers for better fruit production in drought area of Samba.
Beneficiary farmer Baldev Raj discussed in detail about the benefits (enhanced flowering and fruiting) obtained in the mango orchard after application of the bioregulator. All the farmers and officials visited mango orchard of Baldev Raj and found very good fruit in the entire treated Mango tree in comparison to control. The participating farmers expected such trainings in future as well. Dr. Bhav Kumar Sinha expressed vote of thanks.
