Skill Development Training on Advanced Techniques in Natural Product and Medicinal Chemistry starts at IIIM Srinagar

SRINAGAR: The skill development program “Hands-on Training on Advanced Techniques in Natural Product and Medicinal Chemistry” commenced on Wednesday at CSIR-IIIM Srinagar (br.) which was inaugurated by Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, Director CSIR-IIIM Jammu virtually.
Dr. Ahmed underscored the pivotal role of natural products and medicinal chemistry in accelerating drug discovery and development while also highlighting recent advances in the field.
Dr Zabeer emphasized the enduring relevance of natural products, stating, “From traditional remedies to modern therapeutics, natural compounds remain a cornerstone of drug discovery. Integrating advanced medicinal chemistry techniques with these resources is key to addressing global health challenges.”
He further said that the program aims to cultivate a skilled workforce capable of leveraging natural product chemistry for novel therapeutics. By merging traditional knowledge with modern science, it seeks to address pressing healthcare needs through sustainable innovation.
The training combines theoretical sessions with hands-on labs, focusing on advanced methodologies such as bioactive compound isolation, structural elucidation, and molecular modelling. Participants will gain proficiency in high-throughput screening, spectroscopy, and data analysis tools critical for pharmaceutical research.
20 Attendees from eight states representing academia, industry, and research institutions, reflecting the program’s broad impact, are participating in this training program.
The three-day program is coordinated by Dr Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Principal Scientist and Dr Syed Khalid, Scientist, under the supervision of Er Abdul Rahim, Head IM Srinagar (Br.) and Dr Fayaz Malik, Deputy Head.The inaugural session saw participation from other scientists, scholars and technical staff.
