Six killed, 56 injured as bus falls into gorge

DODA/JAMMU: Six persons were killed and 56 others injured when a bus fell into a deep gorge in Doda District on Sunday, police said.
“A bus carrying 62 passengers, on its way to Rehand village in the district, suddenly fell off the cliff into a deep gorge, around 20 kilometers away from the Doda town” Deputy Commissioner of Doda, Bhupinder Kumar said.
Three persons died on the spot, while three others died on the way to the hospital, he said.
Seven of the 56 injured are in a critical condition, the DC said adding, “We have requested the Air Force to provide a helicopter and immediately a MI 17 I V helicopter was on its way, we will be shifting the seven critically injured to GMC (Government Medical College) Jammu for specialised treatment”.
“Right now the priority is to save precious human lives, the enquiry will be conducted to know the exact cause of the mishap,” he said.
The deceased have been identified as Adiba Bano 5 years daughter of Mohd Shaki resident of Roti Padarna , Mohinder Singh 42 son of Ghirdhari Lal resident of Bidwan, Mohd Shahid 27 son of Mohd Shabir Dev resident of Zahind, Prithvi Raj son of Bidya Lal resident of Dhara, Master Mohd Sayed son of Mohd Amin resident of Ghath and Ghulam Hussain son of Mohd Ramzan resident of Zahind.

Minister for Health and Medical Education, Bali Bhagat along with Minister of State for Health and Medical Education, Asiea Naqash, on Sunday evening rushed to GMC Hospital to ensure that Doda accident victims receive best treatment.
The ministers expressed sympathies with the families of the victims and assured all help from the Government.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, on Sunday expressed grief over the loss of life in the bus accident near Dhara in Doda district. In her condolence message, the Chief Minister conveyed her heart-felt sympathies to the bereaved families in their hour of grief and prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls.
She also wished speedy recovery to those injured in the accident and directed the divisional administration to immediately air-lift the seriously injured to GMC Jammu for best-possible treatment.
Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah and Working President Omar Abdullah on Sunday expressed shock and grief over death of five persons in a tragic road accident in Dhara, Doda District.
Dr Abdullah and Omar Abdullah also wished speedy recovery to those injured in the mishap.
JKPCC Chief G. A Mir has expressed grief over the bus accident in Doda.
PCC Chief also expressed grief over the Kerala temple tragedy claiming over 100 lives and living over 300 injured.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, who is also MP from Udhampur- Kathua-Doda constituency, has conveyed his sympathies to the victims of the road accident that took place near Doda.
