JAMMU: Expressing solidarity with farmers from all States of India, Balvinder Singh President, Sikh Progressive Front (SPF) and Manjit Singh General Secretary asked the Government to fulfill all genuine demands of the farming community.
While addressing a press conference on Saturday, President SPF along with representatives of Kashmir Sikh Sangat, Kashmir Sikh Society, Sikh Noujawan Sabha, Displaced Kashmiri Sikh Conference and various other Sikh organisations of Jammu, extended full support to the agitation of farmers. He asked the Govt to refrain from harming legitimate interest of Kissans and shed its false prestige besides fulfilling genuine demands of farmers so that the peaceful agitation is withdrawn at the earliest in the interest of entire nation. We must not forget that farmers feed entire nation and we must feel indebted to them, he added.
Singh further said that draconian anti-farmer laws made by the Government, without taking farmers into confidence, spoke volumes of apathy of Government towards welfare of farmers who feed entire nation by their sheer hard work and devotion.
“It is shocking that farmers along with their families are protesting against Government since last seven days braving chill of prevailing cold conditions but unfortunately the Government on one pretext or another is either undermining their determination or using sponsored media to malign the movement by using a false propaganda besides branding them as anti-nationals,” he added.
Manjit Singh said, “What farmers of Punjab are agitating for is not demand of a single State. Now, it has become a pan India movement and farmers from Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and other States have also joined them in large numbers. Moreover 130 Khaap Panchyats from Haryana under leadership of Sangwan, who has recently withdrawn support from Khattar Government has also joined farmers’ agitation at Delhi.”
The Sikh leaders urged the Central Government to settle all genuine concerns of agitating farmers and repeal all three anti-farmer laws, so that farmers’ agitation is withdrawn in the interest of nation and its people.
