SIA emerges as strong arm of JKP with 65 pc disposal rate in first year: DGP

Jammu: Director General of Police Dilbag Singh on Tuesday said the State Investigation Agency (SIA) has probed 450 cases of special nature with an overall disposal rate of 65 percent during its first year in the Union territory.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the SIA’s first raising day in Miran Sahib on the outskirts of Jammu city.
Lauding the agency for its record, Singh said the SIA had emerged as a strong investigation arm of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and it was successful in creating a sense of fear among anti-national elements.
“The SIA has brought a lot of value addition to the CID wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police,” he said.
The DGP also said new units called Special Investigation Units have been created at the district level to complement and supplement the investigation process in cases under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Dilbag Singh, who was the Chief Guest, congratulated Spl DGP CID and all the officers and Jawans of SIA on completion of an eventful first year. Normally somebody celebrating its first birthday would be walking with difficulties but this wing is rather running that shows the energy and enthusiasm of the officers and the leader of the SIA, he said, adding that a year ago we were having NIA as National Investigation agency to supplement the investigation process in terror related cases in Jammu and Kashmir but today it is a pleasure to say that we have SIA and added that it is itself an achievement that this wing has been able to earn name in very short period of time.
In his address, the Spl DG CID R.R Swain thanked the DGP J&K for gracing the event. He complemented the enthusiasm and energy of the SIA teams who he said are doing excellent job with extreme dedication and professionalism. He said that the proposal of highlighting and underlining the good work of SIA is an initiative to remind ourselves about our responsibilities and reach to the wider family of J&K Police to boost the morale and energy of the organization. He said that the spirit behind the entire exercise was to underline that the extreme hardwork, valour, courage and the raw energy which J&K Police displayed over the last 30 years where the military ability of enemy has been degraded.
He said that this time we have a record low militancy in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that some people are more dangerous than the man holding the gun as they as providing logistic, financial, ideological support to terrorism as an ecosystem is much more dangerous. He said that we need to address the ideology which is actually working as the operating software to the entire campaign of terrorism adding that it is a hard task but not impossible.

The vote of thanks was presented by IGP CID M N Tiwari. SSP SIA Jammu Shiv Kumar also spoke on the occasion and gave detailed insight about the coming into existence of SIA and its working. In the beginning of the function one minute of silence was observed in order to pay homage to the brave martyrs of J&K Police.
On his arrival the DGP was received by Spl DG CID J&K R R Swain and other senior officers and was presented guard of honour.
People lending ideological support to terrorism are “more dangerous” than gun-toting men, said a top police official of Jammu and Kashmir while batting for the need to address the ideology “working as the operating software” for terrorism.
He claimed that militancy in Jammu and Kashmir is at a record low.
“We need to address the ideology which is working as the operating software to the entire campaign of terrorism. It is a hard task but not impossible,” Special Director General of CID R R Swain said.
Swain, who is the Intelligence chief of Jammu and Kashmir police, claimed some people are more dangerous than men holding guns as they as provide logistic, financial and ideological support to terrorism.
