SHRC seeks closure of clinics run by ‘quacks’

JAMMU: The Chairperson of the J and K State Human Rights Commission, Justice Bilal Nazki has passed an interim direction on a complaint titled Chander Shekhar c/o Abhinave Gupta, resident of Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, directing the Divisional Commissioners, Kashmir, Jammu, Directors Health Services, Kashmir, Jammu to close down all such clinics across the State which are run by non-qualified medical practitioners. He has also sought a detailed report along with its compliance within six weeks.
While hearing the complaint regarding the allegations against the firm Bengali Ayurvedic Clinic that the persons with no medical qualifications are practicing medicines and advertising about the expertise in various specialties, the Commission has observed that the local newspapers carry advertisements promoting hospital clinics and laboratories, without knowing the facts whether these institutions are being run lawfully. The Commission has also directed for issuing notice to Secretary Health, Directors Health Services Kashmir and Jammu to apprise about the law governing these private institutions, mechanisms in place to register such institutions and to detect and punish the unqualified medical practitioners.
