Shivani opens J&K account with Silver in Climbing

JAMMU: Shivani Charak, an international sport climber of J&K, opened the account for J&K by winning a Silver medal in Lead climbing in on the opening day of the 27th IMF Sport Climbing Championship being organized by General Thimmayya National Academy of Adventure at Yavanika in Bengaluru.
Anisha Verma, another international climber from Jharkhand won the gold medal, as per the reports shared by Mountaineering Association of J&K (MAJK) informed.
“In fact, in the final round, both Shivani and Anisha topped the 50ft high climbing wall and the result had to be determined on the basis of ranking in the semifinal wherein Anisha had secured the top rank against Shivani’s third place,” said senior vice president of the MAJK, Ram Khajuria.
Accordingly, Anisha Verma was declared the winner and Shivani Charak had to be content with the second place. Saniya Farooque Sheikh, another international climber from Maharashtra, secured the third place
In Bouldering competition also Shivani has entered the final round by securing the third place among the six finalists in the Women’s category. The final round was yet to be played when the last reports filed.
Meanwhile, another strong climber of J&K, Arun Deep Singh narrowly missed to qualify for the final round in Lead Climbing as well as Bouldering securing the ninth and seventh place respectively thus could not qualify for the finals.
