Shivani Charak leaves to Delhi to hone skill on international climbing

JAMMU: To secure a place for the Paris Olympics-2024, Shivani Charak of J&K, a top ranked sport climber of India, who brought laurels to our UT by becoming the first female athlete of J&K to compete in the Asian Games (19th Asian Games, Hangzhou, China) during the last 75 years, shall compete in the Asian Qualifier at Indonesia, in which four Olympic Quota places in Sport Climbing shall be up for grabs for the Paris Olympics-2024.
To prepare herself for performing to her full potential in the Asian Qualifier to be held at Indonesia from 9th to 12th November, 2023, Shivani Charak left today for Delhi to hone her skill and stamina on international standard climbing walls.
Since Indian Mountaineering Foundation, the apex body for sport climbing in the country, is not sponsoring any climber for the event Mountaineering Association of J&K has decided to manage sponsorship of its our own climber Shivani Charak, the pride of J&K, for the Olympic Qualifying event so as to give her an opportunity to prove her mettle at the global level.
It is pertinent to mention here that it is exclusively a testament to her dedication, grit, hard work and will power that Shivani could rise to the global level despite lack of proper climbing infrastructure in our Union Territory.
Meanwhile, before her departure for Delhi Shivani Charak called upon the General Secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K Shawetica Khajuria who assured her all possible help regarding her preparation for the international competitions.
Principal Apple Kids International Pre School, Bantalab Arti Sharma and Seema Sharma, Director of Sprawling Buds ICSC School were also present on the occasion. All of them wished good luck to Shivani for success at the Olympic Qualifying event.
