Shawetica is new secretary of Tawi Trekkers

JAMMU: Young and promising Shawetica Khajuria was on Saturday unanimously elected as General Secretary of the Tawi Trekkers J and K thus becoming first woman in the country to be elected to a higher post of an adventure club.
Shawetica has replaced founder General Secretary, Ram Khajuria, who served the Club, with distinction, for a long period of 32 years.
The new Secretary, Shawetica is a qualified national judge in Sport Climbing. As a sport climber she has represented the state in a number of Zonal and National competitions and has won medals.
Besides, she is a trained mountaineer who has participated and led many trekking expeditions. A Post Graduate in Sociology, Shawetica is presently treasurer of Mountaineering Association of J&K and an executive member of Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee, New Delhi.
Earlier, the meeting of the club, chaired by Advisor of the club, Professor Lalit Magotra also elected Rajesh Gupta and Seema Kharyal unopposed as Vice Presidents. Similarly, Sonam Sidharth named Joint Secretary and Kamal Kumar as Treasurer of the Club.
The executive body of the new look club included Administrator of Oriental Academy, Vivek Chauhan; Directors of Sprawling Buds School, Rahul Sharma and Arti Sharma; Everester, Sajad Haider and an eminent mountaineer, Stanzin Youthog.
As also prominent mountaineer, Sumit Khajuria, sport climber, Anil Kumar, Rohit Sharma of MHAC School, Nagbani and senior members Ram Raj Sharma, Amit Khajuria and Akshay Sadotra of Bishnah.
“The new management team shall be administered oath of office and assume the charge of the Club on October second, the foundation day of the Club,” informed outgoing Secretary, Ram Khajuria.
Since there was no candidate for the post of president, the decision to elect the head of the club was deferred till the next general body meeting. However, Ram Khajuria was elected as the new Senior Vice President who shall preside over the meetings of the Club till the president is elected.
Earlier, a meeting of the founder members of the Club which include Prof. Lalit Magotra, Sumant Singh Jamwal, Ram Khajuria, Arjun Singh, Rajesh Gupta, Rajinder Singh, RBS Jamwal and Virender Magotra took place where, wherein members expressed satisfaction with regard to performance and achievements of the club.
They, however, stressed the need for handing over the reins of management to younger lot and also involve sufficient number of lady members to run the affairs of the Club.
Later, new general secretary, Shawetica Khajuria thanked the members for reposing faith in her and promised to work with full dedication to take the Club to new heights.
