JAMMU: Emphasizing revival of JRC and YRC in government schools and universities, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Shantmanu today exhorted upon the Red Cross Society to raise massive awareness among the people about its activities.
“Dissemination of services of world’s most philanthropic organization is a key component to ensure optimum benefit to the people who otherwise are deprived of the same” the Div Com maintained.
He was chairing a meeting of newly nominated members of Indian Red Cross Society, Region Jammu.
The Div Com, who is also chairman of Regional Red Cross Society Jammu had a detailed review of activities of the Society besides discussing multi pronged strategies envisaging further streamlining working of this vital humanitarian unit.
The issues deliberated upon in the meeting were establishment of Red Cross Blood Bank, Management, repair and renovation of attendant Sarai, activation of district red cross committees, streamlining deployment of regional and district ambulances, upgradation of RCS Medical units, renovation of office complex of Indian Red Cross Society Jammu and issues pertaining to State Branch and ICRC.
Terming district level RCS units as backbone of Regional Society, the Div Com stressed on the need of equipping these units with proper infrastructural edifice and manpower to make them more vibrant.
Expressing concern over lack of knowledge among the people about the facility of attendant sarai, the Div Com asked for constituting volunteer groups to be deployed in the hospital for making the attendants aware of this vital facility ensuring optimum utilization of Sarai. He also asked them to initiate minor repair and renovation works in the attendant Sarai.
Shantmanu directed the RCS members to start preparations for Red Cross mela-cum-Raffle Draw- 2014 which is tentatively scheduled to be held in the second week of December 2014.
