Shan-e-Dugger cultural fest begins

JAMMU: Two days mega cultural festival ‘Shan-e-Dugger’ organized by Sangam Theatre Group Reasi and supported by Union Ministry of Culture was inaugurated by Minister of State for Finance and Planning, Information Technology, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, FCS&CA, Tribal Affairs Ajay Nanda, here at Government High School Thalora in Manwal. BJP leader Nand Kishore presided over the function. The programme commenced with the performance of a traditional Lok by Ganga and party. The splendid musical and dance performances comprising Dogri, Punjabi, Gojri and Pahari dances along with melodious voice of renowned singer Kumari Ranjna mesmerized the public of Thalora Manwal and visitors of beautiful Mansar Lake. It was a unique opportunity for the civil society of the area to enjoy the rare traditional performing arts being held to showcase Duggar Pradesh’s heritage, traditions and costumes. Dr. B.D Gupta (Ex-Deputy Director ISM), Hem Raj Gupta, Raj Kumar Gupta (President Beopar Mandal), Ved Prakash (Tehsildar), Ashiq Bukhari (SHO), Dharam Pal Sharma (Principal), Usha Mukku (ZEO), Parveen Akhter Lecturer, Manzoor Mir (Theatre activist from Kashmir) and Khursheed Ahmad Mir (Srinagar) were also present on the occasion.
Chief Guest Ajay Nanda appreciated the performance of the artists and said that it was the unique presentation which reflected the rich culture and traditions of the region. He said that such events should be organised on regular basis for ensuring preservation and development of regional culture and educate the young generation about importance of traditions and regional languages. Akram Khan Secretary Sangam Theatre Group highlighted the importance of folk dances and cultural heritage. He vowed to continue with the similar endeavours to promote rich legacy and culture of region.
The proceedings were conducted by Bodh Raj Meania and vote of thanks was presented by Shadab Khan.
