Shamima Chairs Environment Sub-Committee meet

SRINAGAR: A meeting of the Sub-Committee on Environment of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly constituted by the Chairman of Environment Committee to look into the functioning of all the STPs constructed alongside the periphery of Dal Lake was held here on Tuesday.
The meeting was chaired by MLA, Shamima Firdous. The other participants in the meeting included Gulzar Ahmed Mir, Dr. Gagan Bhagat, Altaf Ahmed Wani and Anjum Fazili.
Discussion was held on the protection, conservation and preservation of Dal Lake and its adjoining areas. The Committee directed the concerned authorities to adopt effective mechanism to save Dal and its scenic beauty.
Vice Chairman, LAWDA, Sarmad Hafeez briefed the Committee about the measures taken for conservation of Dal Lake besides functioning of STPs established adjoining the Lake.
The committee was informed that there is need to upgrade the STPs including at Habak, Laam and Hazaratbal.
Chairman of Pollution Control Board, Abdul Razak apprised the committee about the departmental activities to preserve the Environment in and around the Dal Lake.
Among others, Senior Officers of LAWDA and Pollution Control Board besides, Assembly Secretariat were also present on the occasion.
