JAMMU: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma today visited and inspected the ongoing restoration work of Tawi Barrage, Siphon of Ranbir Canal, fourth bridge on River Tawi, main bridge embankments, Boria Intake Filtration Plant, Tawi Lift Canal and Sheetli Filtration Plants in Nagorta.
Chief Engineer, PHE, Sushil Aima, Chief Engineer, I and FC, H C Jerath, SE Flood Control, Executive Engineers, PHE, Irrigation and FC and senior officers of various department also accompanied the minister.
Sham directed the engineers and officers to gear up the men and machinery in restoring the damages caused due to flash floods in river Tawi. He said there is no constraint of funds for restoration of the damages due to flash flood and heavy rains across the State.
The Minister asked the concerned engineers to work in coordination for early restoration of damaged utilities. He instructed the flood control engineers to start the restoration work on the both side of main bridge which was damaged due to recent flash flood.
Sham also visited the Boria intake filtration plant and Tawi Lift Canal near Harki Pouri to assess the heavy losses of machinery of these projects. He directed concerned engineers to complete all remaining works within two days and start the Tawi Irrigation Canal for the benefit of farmers. He also directed the PHE authorities to increase the capacity of intake plants and provided safe drinking water to the people of Jammu city and repair all the remaining work within stipulated time frame.
Later, the minister visited the Sheetli Intake Filtration Plants at Nagrota and assesses the heavy losses of these projects. He asked the Chief Engineer PHE to construct embankments around the Sheetli Filtration Plant in Nagorta. He said that government is committed to provide safe drinking water to the people of the state adding that in this regard direction has been passed to PHE functionaries to personally monitor the supply of drinking water to the people.
The Chief Engineers also briefed the minister about the losses caused to the infrastructure and machinery of the department and said the restoration work has been started on war footing.
In the late evening, the minister also attended the wrestling competition at Mathwar organised by Baba Balo Dev Sansthan committee.
During the competition the wrestlers from Jammu and Kashmir State participated.
Winner was given cash prize of Rs. 71,000 and Gurj while the second prize had Rs.51,000 and third prize had Rs.31,000 cash award. The committee also honored the Minister by presenting memento.
Sham praised the organisers Baba Balo Dev Sansthan Committee for conducting such type of events.
“These events also help in promoting friendly relationship among the people of different culture and tradition as well as built the relation with neighbor countries”, he added.
