MENDHAR: Bhimber Gali Brigade and the locals of Mendhar got together to commemorate the supreme sacrifice made by six gallant sons of the soil, while assisting the army on the war front during the 1965 India-Pakistan war. The annual ‘Shahidi Diwas’ at Mendhar marks the recognition and gratitude of the Indian Army to these brave civilians who laid down their lives in the service to the nation as well as the continued commitment of the civilian to work hand in hand with the army. The ceremony included wreath laying at the Shahid Smarak by the Chief Guest, Commander Bhimber Gali Brigade followed by patriotic songs by school children and motivational speeches by eminent citizens of the town. Commander, Bhimber Gali Brigade, while addressing the gathering saluted the indomitable courage of these martyrs and impressed upon the public to emulate the rich and gallant legacy left behind by these patriots.
The encouraging response and willing participation by the locals reflected their support and oneness for the national cause. The ceremony ended with presentation of gifts to Next of Kins of the martyrs by the commander. This event was attended by officers of the district and Tehsil administration and other prominent citizens. Such events enhance the bonhomie between the army and civilians and strengthen the efforts towards peace and harmony in the region.
