AKHNOOR: People from all walks of life converged at the memorial of Shaheed Havildar Chuni Lal Sandhu (Sena Medal) in Village Tacharwan here on Monday to pay rich tributes to son of the soil who laid down his life battling militants.
Havildar Chuni Lal Sandhu, a brave soldier of 55 Rashtriya Rifles, was martyred on December 4, 2007 in a militant flush out operation in Kashmir’s Pulwama Sector and later on, under the orders of the then President of the Republic of India Pratibha Singh Patil, the mention of his name in a dispatch by the Chief of the Army Staff, was published in the Gazette of India on November 8, 2008 for displaying most conspicuous bravery, demonstrating battle field leadership and laying down his life to protect the country.
Every year, martyrdom of Shaheed Chuni Lal Sandhu reminds us about his supreme sacrifice, said people.
“We are proud of our martyrs and should be ready to make every sacrifice for the sake of our country”, said R.L.Kaith while speaking on the occasion.
Naib Sarpanch Ram Lal Lakhotra urged the youth to participate in such events so that they could know about the supreme sacrifices of brave hearts. At the end two minute silence was observed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
Prominent among others who were present at the memorial included Capt. Kamal Dass Kaith, Naib Sub. Kaku Ram Kaith, Naib Sub.(Boxer) Mast Ram Kaith, Havildar Ghari Lal Lakhotra, O.P.Sargotra, Sandeep Kumar Sandhu, Thakur Dass Sandhu, Himat Raj Lakhotra, Arun Kumar Sandhu, Ashwani Kumar Sandhu, Rakesh Kumar Sargotra and Puran Chand Sandhu.
