Shah Rukh Khan: I am too small a person to have a film made about my life!
King Khan on why he won’t allow anyone to make a biopic on him and how even he can’t play himself onscreen
Biopics are the flavour of the season. Shah Rukh Khan believes in them and is reported to be in talks to play hockey legend Dhyan Chand on screen. But ask him if he would want his own life to be immortalised on screen and his answer is a resounding “NO!”
Says SRK, “I am for biopics. I would love to do one if I suit the role. But if you are asking me if I want someone to make a biopic on me, I’d say no! I will be very honest. It is very awkward to think of myself as so important that I should play me on screen! As a matter of fact, my personal life is so unimportant that I would never allow a Shah Rukh Khan to star in it. I would rather say to myself, ‘Tum bohut baade star ho, Itne chhote aadmi ke life ke baare mein hum tumko nahi le sakta’(Laughs) I would never get cast to play my own life because I don’t think my life is so important or interesting.”
Instead, he urged filmmakers to make films on the life stories of other industry greats that are interesting and at the same time, provide more inspiration to everyone else. “You have Amitji, Kishore Kumarji, Lataji, Mohd Rafi saab, Guru Dutt, Raj Kapoorsaab, Dilip Kumar saab, Yash — there are so many people that you can write about, stories which are more interesting and more pertinent to the film industry than mine. I am too small a person to have a film made about my life,”
