SGPC Amritsar clinches Sant Gurbaksh Memorial Hockey trophy

JAMMU: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) Amritsar clinched the fourth Sant Gurbaksh Singh (Danna) Memorial Hockey Tournament 2017 trophy, organised by Santpura Danna Charitable Trust Guru Nanak Nagar under the aegis of Hockey Jammu and Kashmir at KK Hakku Stadium, here on Sunday.
In the title clash, SGPC Amritsar defeated Jammu and Kashmir Police by six goals to five (6-5) in a tough contest after penalty shoot outs. Earlier, both teams scored one goal each in stipulated time. For JKP Sikandar Pal Singh netted a solitary goal in 11th minute while Harinder Singh scored a lone goal for SGPC Amritsar in 50th minute.
Today’s match was officiated by the technical panel comprising Jagjeet Singh, Joginder Singh, Karanjit Singh, Senapati and Satvir Singh (Tournament Director).
The tournament was sponsored by Peaks Auto Limited and Joginder Singh Bali and Updesh Kour of Hong Kong.
In the closing ceremony, Simrandeep Singh, Deputy Commissioner Jammu was the Chief Guest while Attar Singh and Jarnail Singh of Peaks Auto and Joginder Singh and Updesh Kour Bali were the Guests of Honour, who gave away the prizes to the winner and runners up teams. The winner team was awarded with cash prize of Rs 31,000 and the runners up was presented with the cheque of Rs. 21,000.
Fair play trophy was awarded to Banda Singh Bahadur Club Poonch. Mohammad Hussain of J and K Police was adjudged as Man of the Match and Gurkirat Singh of SGPC Amritsar was declared as Man of the Tournament.
Other prominent persons present were Rajinder Singh Raja, Balvinder Singh Advisor to Organising Committee, Pritam Singh Director Horizon Construction, G.S Bakshi General Secretary Hockey J&K, I.S Munna, Harvinder Singh, Janak Singh Organising Secretary, Paramjeet Singh and Sharanjit Singh Shunty.
