RAMBAN: Police on Friday foiled a major bovine smuggling bid by rescuing 107 bovine in two separate cases here.
According to reports, a police party of Chanderkot led by SHO Daljeet Singh on specific information intercepted trucks at Peerah. During checking about 58 bovine were rescued from three trucks and arrested one person as others managed to escape from the spot. The arrested bovine smuggler was identified as Mohammad Saddiq, son of Ghulam Mohammad, resident of Reasi.
SSP Ramban, Randeep Kumar also reached the spot and directed for strict checking of trucks moving towards Srinagar.
Meanwhile, on specific inputs, police also laid a Naka at Chanderkot and rescued 49 bovine from three trucks. However, the bovine smugglers were managed to flee from the spot.
Police registered cases under FIR Nos 4/2017 and 5/2017 of Section 188 RPC and the investigation is going on. A total of seven trucks involved in both the cases were seized by the Chanderkot Police.
The whole operation was conducted under the direction of SSP Ramban, Randeep Kumar and overall supervision of Additional SP, Mushtaq Choudhary.
