Seven held for drug smuggling in Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Police on Sunday arrested seven drug peddlers and recovered huge amount of contraband from their possession in various incidents, today.
Acting on the information, a Naka was established near Sheikhpora petrol pump.
During checking, a load carrier bearing registration number JK01D-2650 was intercepted. On checking 1,000 bottles of codeine phosphate were recovered from the possession of Rashid Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ghulam Rasool Sheikh, resident of Hazratbal, Srinagar and Mohammad Aslam Mir, son of Sona-ul-lah Mir, resident of Ichgam, Budgam.
This consignment of drugs has actually been transported through a registered company to Parimpora Srinagar from Pitampore Delhi, however, Challan reads item carried inside the packing as “Electric Motor” while as it contained codeine phosphate.
A case FIR number 33/17 under section 8/21 NDPS Act was registered in Police Station Budgam and investigation was taken up.
In the second such incident, a police party of Police Station Chadoora arrested two drug peddlers namely Hamid Rather resident of Hasipora and Zubair Ahmad Dar resident of Dalipora Nagam. About 1,000 capsules of Spasmoproxyvan and codeine phosphate bottles were recovered from them.
A case FIR number 07/2017 under Section 8/20 NDPS Act was registered in Police Station Chadoora and investigation was taken up.
In another incident Police arrested two drug peddlers and recovered four kilograms of poppy straw from their possession during a Naka near Nandi Marg Crossing under the jurisdiction of Police Station D.H Pora. During the naka checking, two persons identified as Showkat Ahmad Bhat, son of Nazir Ahmad and Sabzar Ahmad Malik, son of Abdul Gani residents of Okay Kulgam were intercepted. On their checking four kilograms of poppy straw was recovered from their possession.
Police registered a case under FIR number 06/2017 Section 8/25 NDPS Act against them and investigation was taken up.
Police also arrested one drug peddler and recovered 1.70 kilograms of Charas from his possession. A police party of Police Station Mattan laid a Naka at Akura crossing in their jurisdiction. During the Naka checking one person Mohammad Shaban Mir, son of Abdul Ahad Mir, resident of Matipora was intercepted. On checking 1.70 Kilograms of Charas was recovered from his possession.
A case FIR number 16/2017 under Section 8/20 NDPS was registered against him and investigation was taken up.
