Seven-day Mela at Sidh Goria begins

SAMBA: Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chander Parkash Ganga on Sunday visited village Swankha in Ramgarh area of the district to pay obeisance at the Shrine of Baba Sidh Goria.
The Annual Baba Sidh Goria Mela, which runs for a week at Swankha commenced today with great fervour. Every year people come in large numbers to pay obeisance at the Shrine and take bath in Holy ‘Sarover’ which is believed to be having healing and spiritual powers.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that such events promote brotherhood and communal harmony among the people and also help the government functionaries to interact with the masses and know about their problems.
The minister appreciated the efforts of the district administration for providing all facilities to the devotees who have come to pay obeisance at Baba Sidh Goria Shrine at Swankha. The Shrine of Baba Sidh Goria is prominently known in the State and the devotees from different parts of the State and outside throng every year in the month of June-July. An exhibition was also organised by different Government Departments like Agriculture, Social Welfare, Industries, Apiculture, Horticulture, Handloom, Tourism, Rural Development, Education and other departments to make people aware about the schemes being implemented by them. The district administration had made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the Mela like uninterrupted power, safe drinking water, sanitation, medicare and security. ADDC Vivek Sharma, ADC Pawan Sharma, SDM Vijaypur Ravinder Sharma, Mela Officer Jai Kumar Sharma and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
