JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Indian Style Wrestling Association on Sunday organized a seminar on the theme, ‘Wrestling: Promotion, Issues and Solutions’ here in the premises of Sanatan Dharam Natak Samaj Diwan Mandir.
The seminar was held under the overall supervision of Choudhary Prem Nath Chairman of the Association.
Several members of different Dangal committees, senior and budding wrestlers, members of various Akharas, association members and prominent citizens actively participated in the event.
Choudhary Prem, renowned wrestler and NIS Wrestling Coach expressed serious concern over the declining phase of wrestling. He stressed on need to check and rectify all discrepancies to save the game from extinction.
Besides participants discussed issues like fixing in wrestling, inducting renowned and veteran wrestlers in associations, harmonious relationship among various associations, rejuvenation of Akharas, promotion policy for in-service wrestlers in belt forces, reviewing wrestling techniques to make it result oriented, active role of wrestling associations in locating and training budding wrestlers rather than activities of individual interest which may hamper the fair proceedings of their wrestling competitions, holding of inter-Akhara tournaments followed by wrestling camps, annual wrestling championship, etc.
Shiv Kumar Sharma, President Jammu and Kashmir Indian Style Wrestling Association and Joint Secretary State Sports Council was also present on the occasion. He assured full support to promote wrestling in the State. Veteran wrestlers including Capt Liaquat Ali (Retired), Subedar Kartar Singh (Retired), Bodh Raj National Medalist, Balkaar Singh Medalist, Krishan Singh and Om Parkash Deputy Director Libraries were also felicitated on the occassion.
Raj Kumar Maini, Rakesh Khajuria, Bansi Lal Tidyal General Secretary, Allah Mai, Bittu Raina, Pappu Lakri, Abdul Rashid Malik (Jagati), Benia Pehalwan, Surinder Sharma(Bishnah), Parveen Thakur (Jagati), Manzoor Ali ( Bambyal), Romesh Pehalwan, Om Parkash Jajjar Kotli, T.D Thakur Ram Nagar, Krishan Lal (Tuta di Khui), Gulam Rasool AEE, Prem Kumar Master, Asgar Ali Thattar, Raj Kumar, Dr Dubey, Swaran Anand, Shiv Kumar, Krishan Lal and Rajinder Singh Kairoo also spoke on the occasion.
Proceedings were conducted by Mulakh Raj Sharma NIS Wrestling coach while vote of thanks was presented by Bodh Raj veteran wrestler of Akhara Diwan Mandir.
