Seeking status at par with KP migrants, Doda migrants hold protest

JAMMU: Migrants of Doda District held a protest in the Complex of the Relief Commissioner’s Office (Migrant) here at Canal Road, on Monday. The protest was led by Doda Migrants Camp Office Chairman Suraj Rana.
Addressing the protestors, Rana condemned Relief Commissioner (M) for not implementing the Central Government’s order to grant the migrant status at par with the Kashmiri Pandit (KP) migrants.
The protestors also rued that they are being forced to live on rent as provision of quarters is being denied. “Around 450 families of Doda have been verified but are still not registered as migrants. These families have been deprived of facilities being extended to Kashmiri migrants. The issue of decrease in Ration quota of rice was also highlighted in the protest. The protesting Doda migrants appealed to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to intervene and ensure early redressal of their problems.
Wali Mohd Khan, Abdul Qayoom, Abdul Rashid, Mohammad Farooq, Kunj Lal, Joginder Singh, Sanjay Kumar, Lal Chand, Bodh Raj and ghulam Nabi were also present.
