Secy DLSA inspects facilities for inmates at Central Jail Kot Balwal

JAMMU: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Jammu, under the guidance of the Chairman and Principal District and Sessions Judge (PDJ) Jammu R. N. Watal and under the supervision of Sub Judge-Secretary Maleeka Sharma, on Monday conducted an inspection of Central Jail Kot Bhalwal.

The DLSA Secretary Maleeka Sharma and Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel Anil Sharma visited the Central Jail Kot Bhalwal to get first-hand appraisal of the living conditions for under-trial prisoners, detenues and other inmates, as well as the overall functioning of the jail. The Secretary and team members held interactions with under-trial prisoners, detenues, and convicts and took a first-hand stock of facilities available for the inmates. Senior Superintendent of Central Jail Chhabil Singh Bhau was also present.
The inspection covered a wide range of areas, including the Jail Legal Aid Clinic, VC rooms, interview area, prisoner calling system, Jail Hospital, Kitchen Area, etc. The Medical Centre within the jail premises was thoroughly inspected followed by a visit to the Jail Hospital.
Noting that some areas of the jail premises require renovation, on the spot directions were given to the Jail Superintendent to identify the spots and coordinate with the concerned authorities under the applicable rules.
