SDM Jammu North inaugurates start-up programme on farm based bio pesticides production

JAMMU: SKUAST-J organised a training-cum-demonstration programme on low cost technologies for mass production of bio-agents under Department of Biotechnology (DBT), GoI sponsored project, entitled ‘Community based mass production for bio-agents in J and K: Popularisation of low cost technology for Agri entrepreneurship through farm based bio-control units’ at Panchayat Lower Barnai Jammu under the supervision of Dr. R.K Gupta, Principal Investigator.
The programme was inaugurated by SDM North, Jammu, Alyas Khan who appreciated the efforts of SKUAST-J and Department of Agriculture for starting such innovated programme for the benefit of farming community. He further stressed upon the farming community to upgrade their skill in the production of bio-agents and save the environment from the excessive use of chemicals. He also distributed bio-pesticides among the farmers of the area.
Principal Investigator of the Project, Dr. R.K Gupta, gave detailed view of the objective of the training programme to create awareness among the farmers for the setting up of community based low cost mass production units of bio-agents to reduce the pesticide pressure on the crops. He further demonstrated the low cost technology for the production of bioagents.
Dr Kamlesh Bali, Co-investigator briefed the farmers about the self production of bio-agents for sustainable agriculture and to overcome the hazards of chemical pesticides for evergreen agriculture. Dr. Suhail Ganai conducted on field demonstration to on homemade pesticide of botanical origin.
Rajesh Verma, Agriculture Extension Officer, Mishriwalla debated on pesticide free vegetable production in the area and thanked SDM, North Jammu and SKUAST-J for organizing training and demonstration programme for the benefit of farming community of Panchayat Lower Barnai. The programme was assisted by Ashu Jamwal, Sonika Gupta and Ravinder Kumar VAEA of Department of Agriculture, Jammu.
