SCERT holds two-day seminar on ‘From Veneration to Action: Disseminating Learning for Change’

JAMMU: In a landmark initiative to advance the cause of gender equity and inclusive education, the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Jammu Division, convened a two-day seminar titled “From Veneration to Action: Disseminating Learning for Change” for Heads of Institutions, on 5th and 6th of August, 2025.

This intellectually stimulating programme was held under the visionary leadership of Shantmanu, Financial Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary, and under the distinguished guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Sindhu Kapoor, Director, SCERT Jammu and Kashmir.
The seminar was organised by the Multilingual Education Cell, with the aim of disseminating key learnings from NCERT’s “Nari Shakti Vandan” modules, fastidiously translated into Urdu and Dogri by JKSCERT Jammu, for broader accessibility and relevance.
The event was inaugurated with by the Chief Guest, Indu Kanwal Chib, Chairperson, Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB), in the presence of the Joint Director, SCERT, Heads of Academic Units, Coordinator and participants.
A formal welcome address was delivered by the Joint Director, SCERT Jammu, who brought to the fore the transformative role of women in shaping the educational landscape not merely as recipients but also as key drivers of change.
Highlighting the relevance of the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan’ modules, she also acknowledged the dedicated efforts of Multilingual Education Cell of SCERT Jammu Division in contextualising these resources to meet regional aspirations and societal needs.
Indu Kanwal Chib emphasised the importance of gender equity in education. She encouraged educators to adopt inclusive approaches and acknowledged the significant role of women educators in catalysing change within the system.
Prof. Veena Gupta (Retd.), Department of Dogri, University of Jammu, who graced the event as the Guest of Honour, shared her valuable insights on cultural inclusivity, language empowerment, and the representation of women in regional literature.
Across the two days, eminent resource persons including, Prof Veena Gupta (Retd), Dr. Renu Gupta, (Retd.) Principal, Army Public School, Domana, Rohini Aimma, Principal cum Vice-Chairperson of Jammu Sanskriti School, Jammu, Prof. Vishav Raksha, HOD, Sociology , University of Jammu, Senior Adv. Deepali Arora, Adv. J&K and Ladakh High Court and Monica Sharma, A/O, SCERT, delivered sessions on diverse themes including, the Role of Schools in fostering gender sensitivity, socio-cultural and political contributions of women, economic empowerment through entrepreneurship and We are Second to None.
In the dynamic session on ‘Development of Action Plan and Activities’, participants collaboratively designed school level strategies to promote gender equity and inclusion. This design lab session empowered educators to conceptualise and blueprint inclusive practices tailored to their unique school contexts for real classroom setting.
The seminar was coordinated by Monica Sharma and Dr Sandeep Singh served as Associate Coordinator, whereas Rakesh Chobber rendered his expertise on the technical front.
The success of the programme was bolstered by the contributions of Paawan Vivek, Rukhsana Gulbadan Shamim Nazki, Rukhsana Koser, Madhu Sharma, Sushma Kumari, and Meena Thakur.
The seminar culminated in a valedictory session, encapsulating the collective reflections and learnings of the participants. Certificates were ceremoniously distributed to acknowledge and appreciate the active engagement of all attendees. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Vinod Kumar Bhat, Associate Professor.
