The Supreme Court’s decision to consider any appeal for votes on the grounds of religion, caste, race, community or language as a corrupt practice, is a welcome step. This may reign in those politicians and political parties who indulge in dividing people on these lines for votes. Our election process needs many reforms to clean up the system and drive out the malpractices. It is time the Modi government attended to this aspect on priority, and before the UP elections are conducted. Election laws must be modified to have only honest and dedicated public representatives.
