Sat, Rajesh visit flood-hit areas, express grief over death of 2 girls

JAMMU: BJP State President and MLA Sat Sharma along with senior officials of police and civil administration, including DIG Ashkoor Wani, Deputy Commissioner Simrandeep Singh, SP North Vinod Kumar, Dy SP Sugandha Mahajan and SHO Janipur Virender Gupta visited Ward No. 36 falling under Jammu West Assembly Constituency where heavy rains and floods consumed two precious lives of young girls.
He met the bereaved families, expressed condolences and conveyed party’s sympathies to them. He also went around other lanes of this ward and in adjoining Ward No. 37 to take stock of the damages caused by the heavy rains. On Sat’s intervention, compensation of Rs 4 lakh to each bereaved family was sanctioned through Deputy Commissioner, Jammu. Sat Sharma, while terming today’s heavy rains and floods as most tragic natural calamity, said that the people have suffered losses on account of damages to vehicles and property besides public infrastructure. He stressed upon PHE, PWD and PDD authorities to immediately take up the repair works in the affected areas to ensure that people are not made to suffer.
Meanwhile, MLA Rajesh Gupta held a tour of Rajeev Basti and Vikram Chowk areas in Ward No. 19, in view of the incessant rains in the morning.
Due to heavy downpour the areas in Rajeev Basti and Vikram Chowk became water logged and the residents of the area had a harrowing time with water entering many houses in the area. Rajesh was accompanied by SDM Sonu Pargal. MLA instructed the PHE officials present on the occasion to immediately dewater the area so that the water does not cause any further damage.
Residents including Ashok Lambad, Rajesh Bhalla and Preetam helped the MLA and other officials in organising the relief effort in the area. MLA also demanded that an assessment of the loss be also made so that people can be suitably compensated and the accompanying SDM was instructed to prepare the report in the shortest possible time.
Meanwhile, Vice-President BJP Yudhvir Sethi toured flood affected areas of the city.
He visited Rajeev Nagar, Qasim Nagar, Kalika Colony, Shahbad Colony, Raika Mahamaya and adjoining areas. Rajeev Charak State Incharge, Training accompanied the BJP leader during the tour.
Taking note of the damages to protection walls and other allied civil structures at Qasim Nagar, Yudhvir demanded an inquiry to check whether quality standards were maintained during the construction of the structure. He interacted with the people whose property has been damaged and assured that adequate help would be extended to the people.
Govind Sareen, Incharge BJP Sports Cell and Anil Masoom, Vice-President District Jammu also accompanied the senior BJP leader.
