Saroori chairs environment committee meet

SRINAGAR: The Committee on Environment of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly held a meeting here today under the Chairmanship of MLA, G.M Saroori and discussed various issues related to the protection of environment in the State.
The committee discussed the role of State Pollution Control Board, Department of Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing in controlling pollution and Protecting the overall Environment State.
Shamima Firdous, Abdul Majeed Larmi, Altaf Ahmed Wani, Mohammad Amin Bhat, Daleep Singh, Dr Krishan Lal, Yawar Ahmed Mir, Mohammad Abass Wani, Aijaz Ahmed Mir, Dina Nath, Davinder Kumar Manyal, Gulazar Ahmed Wani, Mumtaz Ahmed, Dr Gagan Bhagat and Anjum Fazili attended the meeting and gave their valuable suggestions to make the Committee more vibrant and result oriented.
The Committee sought status report on STPs in and around Dal Lake Hotels and besides other Hotels of the state.
Chairman, Pollution Control Board, Abdul Razak apprised the Committee about the measures taken by the department to check pollution in the State.
Earlier, Director, Environment and Remote Sensing, Suresh Chugh also about monitoring of Air quality, water quality etc. in cities briefed the Committee about the safeguard of the Environment in different aspects through a Power Point presentation.
The Committee stressed on immediate implementation of the directions and recommendations.
Principal Secretary, Forest, R.K Gupta, Senior Officers of the concerning departments besides officers and officials of Assembly Secretariat were also present in the meeting.
