JAMMU: Amid mounting public anger over heaps of garbage in the Cantonment Satwari not being cleared, Advocate Gurdeep Singh Pandey today launched a scathing attack on the Cantonment Board Authorities and the contractor for “failing to deliver” on their “tall promises” and accused them of passing the buck on each other.
Sitting on the ground surrounded by protesting sanitation workers in Satwari Gandhi Chowk , Advocate Pandey vowed to fight for their cause. Over 100 Safaikaramcharis have been on strike for the last five days protesting against genuine demands of their salaries as the new contract is double the amount of work compared to earlier contract and the Safaikaramcharis are same in number and their timings are also increased.
Besides this he quoted that Chief Justice of India, Justice T.S Thakur during his visit to Jammu rightly said that in the Indian culture the worker is traditionally regarded as ‘Vishwakarma’. The country cannot be happy if the worker is unhappy.
Later on elected Ward Member Rajesh Bakshi, Ex Ward Member Raghubir Singh, Ramsaran Khullar,Bachan Singh joined a Dharna by the Safaikarmacharis at Satwari, Gandhi Chowk. Rajesh Bakshi, who has talked about decentralisation of power to the bottom rung of the society, justified the agitation by the sanitation workers, saying their demands will only be fulfilled if they showed their strength and promised to lend his support to their struggle .
