JAMMU: Taking note of registration of a criminal case against Nestle India and Maggi brand ambassadors, Amitabh Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit and Preity Zinta, the Jammu and Kashmir Government on Wednesday lifted samples from all the districts for random testing.
Advising people not to consume Maggi noodles in the wake of reports of high lead and monosodium glutamate (MSG) content in the fast food, the CAPD Minister Choudhary Zulfikar Ali told STATE TIMES that the government is banning its sale from tomorrow.
The Minister said that in case of lapse in food safety standards, the State government will take strict action and entire Maggi stock will be withdrawn from the State.
“Protecting interests of consumers is our duty and we will not allow sale of any food items which is not fit for human consumption,” the Minister said and appealed the general public not to consume these noodles until reports received from the testing labs.
The minister said the government will file a case against Nestle India in the Court as per provisions of the Food Adulteration Act and will not compromise on issues relating to health safety.
Meanwhile, the Delhi government has also banned the sale of Maggi noodles for 15 days and asked the Swiss manufacturer Nestle to withdraw the existing stock.
The Army also issued an advisory asking its personnel not to consume Maggi noodles and directed military canteens to take off its existing stock from the stores.
