Safe havens
Pakistan blaming India for attacks in it territories is nothing new. The recent one comes from none other than Advisor to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz, who blamed India for attacks on Pakistan in an interview to a Pakistan newspaper’s online edition saying India is using Afghan soil to carry out attacks on Pakistan. This reaction comes after the withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan and India extending support in reconstruction of that war torn country. Fearing India’s presence in the neighbourhood as a neutralising factor Pakistan finds tough after United States too changed its policy towards that country. He in order to keep the domestic crowd happy played the Kashmir card and called for a compromise on Kashmir. What is Pakistan stand on an Indian territory for which it is calling for a compromise is beyond ones comprehension. Pakistan’s policy to tackle the scourge of extremism and militancy was clear, by saying that there would be no differentiation between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ Taliban. Pakistan has not learned any lessons even after the deadly 16th December attack on Peshawar’s Army Public School. The country’s civil and military leadership were on the same page and blaming the other for ones shortcomings is the folly they are adopting to deceive no body except themselves. Pakistani leadership should think out of box solution to get rid of the terrorism menace which has eaten into the vitals of the sub-continent. As an afterthought Pakistan Government came out with a statement that we all know, who is upstreaming terrorism and who endeavours to downstream it. We all also know that the main threat to peace and security in Afghanistan comes from terrorism. Therefore, don’t be misled by those who intend to obscure the challenge that safe havens pose to peace and security in the region. This is a fact that Pakistan cannot be at peace while there is unrest in Afghanistan. So it would be better for itself to understand the realty at the earliest than to wait for improving the conditions.
