JAMMU: National Conference Additional General Secretary and former Minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today expressed anguish and concern over jeopardising the future of millions of aspirants across the country including Jammu and Kashmir by mismanaging and erroneous handling of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
“The ill effects of the examination on students, their parents and the broader education system has been colossal and the BJP owes answers and explanation to the country “, Ajay Sadhotra said in a statement issued here this afternoon. He blamed the Centre for mismanagement and lack of sensitivity towards aspirations of the young aspirants, saying NEET has created significant disparities in access to medical education, disadvantaging students from rural areas and those from economically weaker sections. The BJP ought to have spared at least students and avoided the centralized nature of NEET, ignoring the diverse educational backgrounds across the country,
particularly harming students who do not have access to high-profile coaching Centres,
The anomalies in the conduct of the examination is yet another insult to the injuries of all those finding pushed to wall after declaration of results, he added. Describing education as a state subject, Sadhotra said imposition of NEET without considering local contexts is unjust and unfair. The National Conference expresses solidarity with the students and reiterates its resolve to continue its fight for a fairer education system. He called for a more equitable, inclusive, and decentralized approach to medical admissions by undertaking course correction in the prevailing mechanism. Sadhotra assailed the BJP for forcing the students take to streets to fight for justice and said this can have serious ramifications. The compatriots expect the BJP led NDA government to listen to the voices of students, parents, and educators, he added.
Referring to the menace of paper leaks and recruitment scams under the BJP rule, Sadhotra said the malady appears to have manifested as an organised affair. He recalled the recruitment scams like Police SIs, JEs and Accounts Assistants in Jammu and Kashmir, saying these have shaken the confidence of the educated unemployed in the system.
While the credibility of the recruitment agencies has touched lowest depths, the erosion in the system has taken toll of meritorious candidates who genuinely feel pushed to the wall.
