Sabbi Cricket Club Hoshiarpur lifts 7th Police Martyrs T20 trophy;Vaid remembers sacrifices of martyrs

JAMMU: Director General of Police (DGP), Dr. S.P Vaid on Sunday said that sports develop ability to face adversity with poise and dignity. It also helps to imbibe a spirit of patriotism and sportsmanship among the youth.
Dr. Vaid was speaking at the closing ceremony of Seventh Police Martyrs Memorial Cricket Championship at Kathua this afternoon. The tournament was inaugurated on 16th December, 2016 by the DGP. In all, 16 teams from the State and north India, besides Indian Air Force and Indian Army, participated in the championship.
Dr. Vaid said that JKP is organising various tournaments in the State every year in the memory of its martyrs, who laid down their lives for bringing peace and normalcy in the State.
The force, besides its professional duties is promoting sports culture in the State in order to imbibe a spirit of patriotism and sportsmanship among the youth. Logistic support to the talented youngsters is provided to hone their skills in the field of sports, said the DGP.
Dr. Vaid appreciated the efforts of the people and industrialists of Kathua, who organise the championship annually to pay homage to police martyrs.
He asked the civil society to organise such activities, which could help the youth to channelise their energies in a positive way. He also lauded the participating teams, who have shown their interest in the unique kind of tourney.
DGP also interacted with the families of martyrs and distributed gifts among them. He said that the martyrs have made JKP proud and their sacrifices cannot be forgotten.
Sabbi Cricket Club Hoshiarpur lifted the championship by defeating Khana Cricket Club Jagraun in the final match. Harshit was declared Man of the Match and Gurkeerat Mann of Sabhi Cricket Club Hoshiarpur was declared Man of the Series.
The DGP appreciated the efforts of Kathua Police, Shaheed Welfare Committee and sponsors for organising the prestigious tournament in a well organized manner.
He distributed trophies and cash prizes among the winning team including bumper prize (Alto 800 Car) to the Man of the Series.
DGP also thanked the teams for displaying standards of discipline during the championship.
Among others, the closing ceremony was attended by IGP Jammu Danesh Rana, DIG JKS Range A.A Wani, DC Kathua Ramesh Kumar, SSP Kathua Pawan Parihar, A.K Choudhry MD PHC, Joginder Singh SSP Samba, Principal PTS Kathua, Sanjeev Khajuria, Khalil Ahmed Poswal Additional SP Kathua, Chairman CTM Kathua, President District Industries Association, Ajit Bawa and prominent industrialists, citizens, families of martyrs and large gathering of cricket lovers.
