JAMMU: Regional Transport Office (RTO) in the winter capital is all set to go cashless by January ending when payments for all services including driving licenses and registration of vehicles shall be paid electronically.
Regional Transport Officer, Jammu, A.K Khajuria told STATE TIMES that office of the RTO Jammu will be the first department of J and K which will provide
services through cashless transactions.
With online services coming operational the two major services viz registration and licensing would become people-friendly by owners of the new vehicles paying registration fee and all documents without visiting the RTO, Khajuria added.
“People coming to RTO office can pay fee for various services by using their debit and credit cards. Applicants are no longer required to make payments in cash. The office is also installing PoS (Point-of-Sale) machines for ensuring cashless transactions for the convenience of people visiting the office. Manual issuance of Learners’ Licenses has also been closed from today and the same can be obtained online”, he informed adding that from now onwards the driving license applicants will submit their documents, license fee and photographs online and shall also get the copy of learner’s license online.
“The applicant has to visit only once in the office for a driving test which is mandatory before issuing the permanent driving license,” Khajuria asserted.
It is expected that the move will ensure hassle-free services to the people of Jammu region and also save their time.
With the installment of PoS machines, the RTO office will be able to promote cashless transactions on a permanent basis to curb corruption besides its other benefits, he stated.
In this regard, Deputy Commissioner, Simrandeep Singh visited the RTO office and took stock of the steps being taken by the office in view of the initiatives taken by the Prime Minister for promotion of digital and less cash economy in the country.
