MENDHAR: The people of Tehsil Mendhar have strongly voiced against the celebration of 28th Road Safety Week when the agencies responsible to ensure strict observance of traffic norms had been quite comfortable to overlook the blatant violation of these norms.
The locals alleged that the Tata Sumo which has a seating capacity of 7 passengers carried 14 to 18 passengers by loading the people on roof tops also. These Tata Sumo vehicles ply not only in the Mendhar town but to and fro Poonch and other distant places.
The commuters said that they objected to the overloading but the vehicle operators give no attention to their objections because the traffic police and JK Police do not take cognizance of such overloading. They said that the sympathy of the police towards vehicle operators is at the cost of precious lives.
