RKJ, JU host Sanskrit poetic symposium

JAMMU: The first ever Sanskrit Poetic symposium was jointly organized by the Department of Sanskrit, University of Jammu and Radio Station Jammu & Kashmir here on Thursday.
Prof. R.D Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu was Chief Guest and V.K Sambyal, Director, Radio Kashmir Jammu, presided over the function. The programme began with lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries and the programme was conducted by Dr. Ram Bahadur and Dr. Sharat Chandra Sharma.
In his welcome address, Programme Officer, Kamal Krishan Lidhoo who informed that such an event was being organized for the first time in the city. The poets presented their poems on various themes including patriotism, corruption, environmental issues and on India.
Dushyant Sharma started with his poem entitled Bharta that eulogized the greatness of our nation.
Dr. Raj Kumar Mishra presented his poem that was on various social problems that the nation is facing these days. This was followed by poems of Dr. Tej Nath Pandel. Dr. Ram Bahadur presented the colour of humour also in one of his poems.
Dr. Pratibha moved the entire house with lyrical rendition of her poem on mother and also on the theme of India waiting to regain its past glory. Dr. Kedar Nath Sharma read his poem entitled Jai Gantantra and Prof Preetam Chand Shastri’s poem Bharat Gourvam spread the message of past, present and future prestige of India.
Prof Sushma Devi’s poem was on the journey and life of poem itself while at the end, the anchor Dr. Shart Chandra Sharma presented his two poems.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. R.D Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu appreciated the Department of Sanskrit and Radio Kashmir Jammu for organising first of its kind of event for promoting the Languages and hoped that the Department will organize more such programmes in future also.
Station Director, V.K Sambyal not only praised the quality of the poems but further assured the continuous support of Radio Kashmir Jammu for the cause of Sanskrit. He informed that the Station is going to start on air for teaching of Sanskrit language. He also informed that RKJ is the only station in India that still produces Sanskrit plays on regular intervals.
The event ended with vote of thanks by Programme Executive, Anjana Badyal.
The programme was attended by the officials of the Radio Kashmir Jammu Nitish Arora, Sanjeev Sharma, Kamal Krishan Liddo, Anjana Badyal, Rakesh Gupta and the teachers Dr. Vidyadhar Singh, Satyapriya Arya, Prof. Parmeshwari Sharma, Prof. Parminder Kour, Dr. Baljeeta Kour, Prof. Giyan Chand and Dr. Riyaz Ahmed, students and scholars of the Sanskrit Department.
