At a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be chairing the first meeting of the reconstituted Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Society, the revival of Congress by Rahul Gandhi with his bold attacks on the Prime Minister is an attempt to take the battle right into the heart of NDA Government. The memorial society has 34 members comprising of Congress and BJP and this is for the first time a true democratic and representative body has come into existence and even Modi also raised the point that the society should attempt to reflect the thought of Jawahar Lal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, on contemporary themes like good governance. This shows setting aside political ideologies if all the parties can come on one platform for running the country effectively, it would be the best tribute to the democratic system of governance. The revival of Congress through recharged Rahul after his long sabbatical, has sent a message that it is determined to do BJP what BJP had done to UPA-obstruct every movement of the government. However Govt’s prickly responses are evident that something has changed. There are obvious political reasons for this. It looks Rahul’s sabbatical was a refresher course on reviving Congress legacy that is why the aggression and frontal attack on Modi and dress code. Even in Jammu and Kashmir sudden spurt in Congress activities with newly-elected Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir spearheading attack on PDP_BJP coalition too looks a part of the reviving exercise for the party. But one factor visible was the factionalism with followers of former PCC Chief Saif-ud-Din Soz missing for the united Congress podium. No doubt Mir has been able to reactivate party cadre in the State the missing cohesion within the party would not augur well which was much evident on the outcome of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the State. What Congress needs to do is to strengthen its grass-root organisation and improve people-to-party contact and let the leaders make themselves available and institute confidence among the people by solving their genuine problems and not resorting to just anti-BJP diatribe for few clapping.
