Retd JCO killed; jawan among 9 injured in road mishaps

JAMMU: In various road mishaps, a Retd JCO lost his life while nine others including an army jawan got injured here on Sunday in various parts of Jammu Province.
An ex-Subedar Om Parkash (66) son of Chet Ram resident of Tarore Camp was hit by a rashly driven unidentified vehicle at Gurha Morh, Vijaypur and seriously injured. The JCO was immediately shifted to Emergency Hospital Vijaypur but due to his critical condition he was evacuated to Government Medical College Hospital Jammu where the doctors declared him as brought dead.
His body was handed over to his family members after autopsy. Vijaypur Police has registered the case for investigation.
Meanwhile, an army Jawan was hit by a rashly driven matador in Vijaypur on Sunday and seriously injured.
The Jawan identified as Lakhwinder Singh (45) son of Sujan Singh resident of Vijaypur who was serving in Assam Rifles and posted in West Bengal had come to his native place on leave where he was hit by a matador and injured. He was immediately shifted to Vijaypur Hospital but due to his critical condition he was evacuated to Government Medical College Hospital Jammu. The injured being an army Jawan, was further shifted to Military Hospital Jammu.
The Vijaypur Police have registered the case and the matador which hit the jawan and fled from the spot, was being traced.
Meanwhile, a youth got critically injured when his car was hit by an unknown vehicle from opposite direction at Udhampur.
According to a report, a victim identified as Varinder Kumar son of Om Parkash resident of Rathian locality in Udhampur was on his way to home in his car bearing No. JK02K-7879 and was hit by unknown vehicle coming from opposite direction. Injured was shifted to District Hospital Udhampur where doctors on seeing his condition critical further referred him to GMC Jammu. Police has registered a case and launched the investigation.
Whereas, seven persons were injured when a three wheeler on its way from village Bareri to Nowshera turned turtle late in the evening on Sunday.
The injured have been identified as Rajesh Kumar son of Isher Dass, Sunil Kumar son of Darshan Lal, Champa Devi wife of Ashok Kumar, Ashok Kumar son of Munshi Ram, Sushila Devi wife of Yog Raj, Ankshit Kumar son of Rajesh Kumar and Reeta Devi wife of Rajesh Kumar. All the injured were shifted to Sub District Hospital Nowshera. Since the condition of Rajesh Kumar and Sunil Kumar was critical, they were being shifted to Government Medical College Hospital Jammu.
