POONCH: The members of Reta, Bajri Collector’s Union Poonch held a protest outside the Office of District Development Commissioner (DDC) Poonch against the exorbitant rates charged from them by the royalty contractors. The members said that the royalty contractors instead of charging the rates as approved by the government, are charging exorbitant rates according to their whims and fancy.
The DDC Mohd Haroon Malik gave a patint hearing to the representatives of the union who apprised him that they have been burdened because of the high rates charged by the royalty contractors for extraction of Sand, Bajri and boulders from the river bed.
The DDC discussed the matter with the District Mininng Officer Javed Iqbal and assured the protesters that suitable orders will be issued in this regard for charging the rates as fixed by the government.
SHO Poonch Jatinder Raina was also present on this occasion.
The activists of the union present on the occasion include President Javed Yosuf Khan, Vice President Kuldeep Raj Sudan, General Secretary Jasvir Singh Raju and members Tejinder Singh, Onkar Singh, Mohd Qasim, Mohd Shabir, Mohd Riaz, Zakur Hussain and Manzoor Ahmed.
