JAMMU: A large number of local residents including women, children and senior citizens assembled at the Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) office at Dogra Hall Jammu and insisted on launching a strong protest against the discriminatory and cruel dissection of the City of Temples in two half’s under the false and frivolous garb of security of the Secretariat.
“Jammu is a peaceful law abiding city of temples” said the prominent persons of the area adding that the “decision to block the road is unreasonable, cruel, uncalled for and arbitrary since there has been no incidence or report of any threat to security in this area”. The besides, it is hardship for school going children, women coming to Zanana Park and for patients going to SMGS Hospital and the funeral processions on way to Jogi Gate, they added. President DSS, Th. Gulchain Singh Charak pacified the agitated members and asked them to calm down till we receive an outcome of the memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, Dy. Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh, Speaker, local ministers, MPs, MLAs and Presidents of political parties. He also expedited the 19 member subcommittee formed under the Co-convener of All Jammu Civil Society Forum, Abdul Majid to establish liaison and furnish a report and arrive at future course of action. He also pointed that the State government has reduced the syllabus to 50 per cent for the Valley students because of the disturbance but gave no consideration to students of Jammu border areas who are losing education due to closure of schools due to Pak firing. It was forcefully brought out that the government must extend similar concession to the border area students and also given them fair share of any employment packages that are received from the Central Government.
