Respect for critics
Dear Editor,
Once a blue eyed journalist cum politician Arun Shourie will soon be bombarded by open letters, taunts, customary bullying from Modi die hard fans for daring to accuse their super hero of “narcissism” and an opportunist who treats people like tissue papers. Arun Shourie harshly reacted last time for his anti Modi bites, even his ill son was not spared and the reaction got bizarre when people called him mentally sick. One may like it or not, this is the freedom of expression, in the present Indian era.No matter what happens one has to praise Modi otherwise he or she will be tagged as anti national and insane.
The greatness of a leader lies in accepting sharp criticism that too from old associates, mates or veterans be it Arun Shourie, Advani or Murli Manohar Joshi. But how come die hard fans tolerate anti Modi statements, as the criticism will be reacted with jibes that these are jealous of Modi. Anyone daring to criticise Modi will be dubbed as Congress supporter. As far as Arun Shourie is concerned he has always bashed Congress nepotism through his politico articles. Something must have hurt him for giving such an interview to Karan Thapar. Even Obamas, Bushs face criticism in US, what is wrong with India? Why an individual is being treated as a super hero? The main reason that comes first to mind is that after 60 years of nepotism, suddenly an individual came into limelight as a ray of hope and with expectations and trust people start following him as a flawless Demi God. We are repeating the same mistake that we did with Gandhi family and the result is in front of us .In a democracy individuals don’t matter, what matters is the governance. Appreciation is rewarded after being re elected every five years. No individual is above the constitution. The world history has witnessed strong headed leaders and their horrible rejection at the end. Modi has full five years to prove his ability as a leader and no one is going to take this opportunity from him and his party but he and his party men have to show respect to those who dare to criticise them and mode of functioning, which is all acceptable in a democracy. Sometimes those who show you the real mirror are your true friends than those who behave as yes men all the time, after all questions are there to be raised every day. Modi is the PM of a democratic nation and not a royal emperor .Individuals may come and go but the nation prevails.
