JAMMU: Demanding immediate release of pending salaries of thousands of teachers of Jammu and Kashmir working under various state and centrally sponsored schemes, members of Teachers Guild on Sunday held a meeting at its zonal headquarter Chowki Choura under the chairmanship of N.A Qurashi, State President Teachers Guild J and K.

The meeting was called by Vijay Kumar Sharma, State General Secretary of Teachers Guild in collaboration with Chowki Choura unit of Teachers Guild. Besides Narayan Baru, Programme Coordinator, Kasturi Lal Sharma Zonal President, Puran Chand Zonal Vice President, Yash Paul Zonal General Secretary, Ravi Kumar Zonal Joint Secretary, Ashwani Kumar Zonal Media Secretary, Ram Lal Zonal Cashier, Devinder Singh Zonal Programme Coordinater, Darshan Lal, Rakesh Singh, Ajeet Singh and Ravish Kant, Co-members of Zonal Unit were also present in the presidium.

Kasturi Lal Sharma, Zonal President Teachers Guild said that the teachers are hand to mouth and their families are starving.  He further said that all the teachers have been badly affected due to non-payment of salaries.

Ajeet Singh, Member Zonal Unit also expressed his anguish over the non serious attitude of the authorities on the salary issue and other demands including regularisation of Rehbar-e-Taleem teachers.

Rakesh Singh, Zonal President of Rehbar-e-Taleem Teachers, who joined Teachers Guild on the occasion, appealed to the teachers to unite for teachers’ cause. Puran Chand Zonal Vice President warned the authorities for their anti-teacher policies and demanded early release of salaries.

N.A Qurashi, State President Teachers Guild, in his presidential address said that it is condemnable state of affairs that thousands of teachers, Masters, Rehbar-e-Taleem teachers working under SSA, RMSA and New Pension Scheme are without salaries for the last many months facing extreme and endless hardships in their personal, economical and social lives. He said that the Teachers Guild decided that all government teachers shall wear black badges to show their resentment till salaries are released and also appealed to the entire teaching community to extend black badges campaign all over the state to show dismay. He also appealed to the Education Minister Naeem Akhtar, Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu and Minister of State Education Priya Sethi to resolve the issue at the earliest.

State General Secretary of Teachers Guild, Vijay Kumar Sharma said that it is for the first time in the history of Jammu and Kashmir that the teachers who are performing their duties in extra ordinary situations have been deprived of their salaries for such a long period.

Mohan Lal, Tarsem Lal, Harish Kumar, Pawan Kumar, Manga Ram, Baboo Ram, Banarsi Dass, Prabh Dayal, Pritam Chand, Madan Lal, Ram Krishan, Raghu Nath, Pawan Kumar, Shiv Kumar, Bal Krishan, Pawan Kumar, Subash Chander and Surinder Singh were also present.
