Regular check-ups vital for heart care: Dr Sushil

UDHAMPUR: Stressing on the need for regular check-ups to prevent heart diseases, Dr Sushil K Sharma, Head Department of Cardiology Government Medical College Jammu said that monitoring the status of heart’s health is the most important aspect of caring this vital organ and keeping it free of diseases.
He was speaking during a heart care camp organised by Rotary Club here on Sunday. More than 250 patients attended the camp.
Dr Sharma along with a team of doctors comprising Dr. Nasir, Dr. Mohi Kalsotra, Dr. D Kapoor, Dr. Atul Sharma and paramedics including Ganesh, Kashmiri Lal besides volunteers including Lokesh and Nitesh supervised the proceedings of the camp.
Risk factors including smoking, excessive alcohol intake, hypertension, uncontrolled diabetes, hyperlipidaemia, obesity and stressful situations affecting the health of the heart were discussed thoroughly. During the camp, the importance of cold weather which is a precipitating factor for acute heart events like heart attacks as well as sudden cardiac arrests leading to mortality especially in old age were also highlighted.
Rotarians including Varinder Singh, Rajinder Sansan, Puran Lal Sharma, Shyam Saroop Kalsotra, Surjeet Singh, M.S Dutta, Rajiv Gupta and Arun Sharma expressed their gratitude to Dr. Sushil Sharma and his team for making available medical facilities at their doorstep and hoped that such kind of camps would be organised in future also.
